While a pass-happy offense had worked well for the Indians (3-2, 1-1 SOC) in their previous four games, it didn’t put any points on the board in the first quarter. So Roseburg went back to the ground, where it’s had so much success in the past. Senior Aaron Buxton led all players with 100 yards on 10 carries, including a 27-yard scamper for a touchdown in the third quarter. That score turned the tide in Roseburg’s favor after Ashland failed to score on the opening drive of the second half. The run game helped open up the passing attack and Brett Stephens was 15-for-20 passing for 189 yards. His 13-yard pass to Ben Sharp was a back-breaker, giving the Indians a 21-7 lead going into the fourth quarter. The Grizzlies (1-3, 0-2 SOC) actually outgained Roseburg in total offense by 11 yards, but managed only 83 yards rushing. Sam Littleton threw for 255 yards and tight end Jeff Skinner caught four passes for 153. James Snyder took the game’s opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown for Roseburg.
