Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend August 23, 2005 Since You Asked Friday’s Scrabble scoring was off The Friday solution to the Thursday (Aug. 18) Scrabble puzzle on page 2B cannot be correct. The solution not only omits one of the letters in the second line, it incorrectly scores a 50-point bonus in the bogus solution when it didn’t fill out the line! Right? — Loretta L., Ashland You said it, Loretta. We don’t know how many other readers were scratching their heads over this one, but there it was, plain as day. We tracked this one back to Shirley, our Scrabble guru, who reports receiving a correction the following day from Tribune Media Services, which distributes the feature. The puzzle and the answers were correct, but the scoring was fouled up. By the way, many of the etymology staffers here at Since You Asked are crossword enthusiasts, and from time to time one imagines she’s found an error in the daily crossword, but it’s not actually happened — to our knowledge — in many years.
