Schaub locks up three victories at GPD By Staff reports Jul 01, 2018 10:38 PM A A GRANTS PASS — Katrina “Kitty” Schaub wrapped up a career afternoon at the Grants Pass Downs on Sunday the same way she started — with a win. The apprentice jockey, who entered the season with two career victories, ran her season total to seven with three wins, claiming the first, fifth and eighth races of the day with Little Bitty Cher, Storm in Paris and My Pal Sully, respectively. Schaub is the third winningest jockey on the season, only trailing the eight wins of both Eduardo Gutierrez-Sosa and Louis Zacherle. Gutierrez-Sosa captured two wins, including the day’s featured race, the Carl Alleman Bonus Challenge which paid a purse of $7,080. He claimed the win atop the race’s defending champion, Tickle Ur Fancy, which has 14 victories in 23 career starts. Gutierrez-Sosa also crossed the finish line first with Charlie My Love in the fourth race. Jockey Jose Figueroa rode Captain’s Gavel to claim the afternoon’s second-richest race, the OTOBA Grants Pass Stakes, with a purse of $4,350. Captain’s Gavel won by five lengths and is a winner in four of six career starts. Like Tickle Ur Fancy and Captain’s Gavel, Gabe’s Pride has almost become a sure bet as it won its second race of the season and now has four victories in seven starts at GPD. Gabe’s Pride, owned and trained by Gabe Williams of Cave Junction, was ridden by Jockey Robert Burney. Racing resumes Wednesday when the season’s richest race, the Firecracker Futurity, will take place. The main event’s purse is $33,400 for 2-year-old quarter horses.
