Marks helps SOU women rout Cascade ASHLAND - A memorable birthday performance by junior guard Sara Marks helped the Southern Oregon University women's basketball team topple Cascade College 93-59 at McNeal Pavilion on Thursday night. Marks, who turned 21, collected season-highs of 25 points and six steals to help the Raiders (7-8) snap a three-game slide and improve to 3-2 in Cascade Conference play. The junior transfer from the College of Eastern Utah connected on 11 of 19 shots, including seven of 10 in the second stanza. Cascade, now 0-5 all-time against SOU, fell to 3-15 overall and 2-3. "We celebrated (Marks') birthday in royal style," Raider coach Kevin Wilson said in a released statement. "The team played well, and if this is the way she will play and we will play, I wish every day was her birthday." The Thunderbirds took advantage of a sluggish Raider start for a 4-2 lead two minutes into the contest, but Southern rattled off 18 of the game's next 22 points en route to a commanding 44-21 halftime edge. CC closed the margin to 19, 62-43, with 11 minutes remaining, but Marks scored seven unanswered points in less than a minute to put the game away. Raiders junior forward Jaime Stanford nailed seven of eight shots for 16 points, while guard Adrienne Dolezal came off the bench for 13 on 5-for-5 shooting. As a team, SOU forced 30 turnovers, collected a season-best 21 steals and outrebounded CC 43-31. "Our defensive intensity was much better tonight," Wilson said. "We were very determined to make up for some poor shooting on the road last weekend (in losses at Albertson and Eastern Oregon). I wanted them to have fun tonight, and they did." Cascade was paced by a 20-point, six-assist, four-steal effort by senior point guard Imani Muhammed. The Raiders next host 19th-ranked Concordia on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. The SOU men host Eastern Oregon tonight at 7:30 and Albertson on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. SOUTHERN OREGON 93, CASCADE 59 CASCADE (3-15, 2-3) Muhammed 8-21 0-0 20, Riddle 1-6 0-0 3, Wilson 3-10 0-0 6, Randall 6-8 2-2 14, Harding 12 2-2 4, Kuzma 1-4 0-1 2, Buckley 0-1 0-0 0, Gamble 4-10 2-2 10, Gonzales 0-1 0-0 0.
