Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend September 9, 2005 Summit scores lateto pin loss on Crater CENTRAL POINT — Crater showed improvement but still came up on the losing end in nonconference boys soccer Thursday. Visiting Summit broke a tie in the final two minutes to post a 3-2 victory over the Comets. It’s was Crater’s second loss to an Intermountain Conference foe to open the season. The Comets (0-2, 0-0 SOC) were blanked 4-0 by Mountain View in Bend on Tuesday. Crater and Summit played to a scoreless first half. The Storm took a 1-0 lead five minutes into the second half on an own goal by the Comets. Advertisement Just one minute later Summit scored again. Then Crater mounted a comeback. At the 62-minute mark, Noah Baker tallied on an assist from Mario Hangartener. Crater’s Thaigo Olidevia tied the score 2-2 on an unassisted goal with five minutes remaining. Summit had a 20-14 advantage in shots. Crater goalie Josh Davis came up with five saves. "Overall we are close to breaking through," Crater coach Chris Gallegos said. "Our boys are showing it more and more everyday." ROSEBURG 3, BEND 1 — At Roseburg, Nick Sanders compiled a goal and an assist to lead Roseburg over Bend in nonconference action at Firgrove Park. Sanders first made his presence felt in the 44th minute, setting up a header by Bryan Bahr. Roseburg (2-0) then took control of the game when Sanders netted a pass from Turkish exchange student Mehmet Dontlu to put the Indians up 3-0. Roseburg’s first goal was scored when a Bend defender lost the ball into his own net. ST. MARY’S 7, ILLINOIS VALLEY 0 — At Cave Junction, Austin Grant scored three goals to lead St. Mary’s in the non-league win. Crusaders’ goalie Kelley Mosley had six saves and central defender Martin Nelson made some key stops to hold the Cougars scoreless. Michael Delgado scored two goals and Dash Hillgartner scored the first goal 22 minutes into the game and had two assists for the Crusaders (1-1). Volleyball BROOKINGS-HARBOR 25-25-25, ROGUE RIVER 10-7-16 — At Rogue River, Brookings-Harbor proved to be too much for the Chieftains in the non- league contest. Sara Hall and Cass Giesbrecht led Rogue River with six aces and six kills, respectively. The Chieftains (0-2) also got three blocks from Leslie Longtain. MAZAMA 25-25-25, ST. MARY’S 14-13-19 — At Klamath Falls, St. Mary’s junior Melissa Lass recorded four of her team-high six kills in the third game. Lass added three blocks along with Kelsey Reedy, who also had 13 digs. Sophomore setter Cynthia Naumes handed out 15 assists for the Crusaders (1-1). The Mazama frontline of Daniel Stratton and Quenby Cox dominated with seven kills each, while Adri Inman provided 26 assists for the Vikings (1-0). BUTTE FALLS 25-25-25, HAPPY CAMP 17-23-22 — At Butte Falls, setter Jossalyn Burg found her niche while serving up a flurry of aces in the season opener for Butte Falls. Burg, a junior, nailed 10 winners from the serving line. Senior outside hitter Nikki Harms finished with four kills for Butte Falls. PROSPECT 25-25-20-25, MILO ACADEMY 11-21-25-13 — At Days Creek, Prospect received strong frontline play from Lacy Musard and Maeghan Scriven and served well in the nonconference victory. Musard registered a team-high 12 kills and was 13 of 15 serving. The Cougars (2-0) also received good serving from Alicia Pace, who was 18-for-19 from the line. Scriven contributed four kills and six digs, while setter Megan Shallenberger passed out 12 assists.
