No. 4 SOU charges back to beat Northwest By SOU Sports Information Jan 21, 2017 12:00 AM A A KIRKLAND, Wash. — For the second time this season, Southern Oregon unleashed a gear Northwest (Wash.) couldn't match in the fourth quarter Friday, coming from behind to steal a 79-71 Cascade Conference win at NU Pavilion. One month ago, the Eagles (10-12 overall, 5-7 CCC) let an 18-point lead slip away in a 90-87 loss in Ashland. On Friday, they went up 62-53 on Emily Henderson's layup at the start of the final period. The fourth-ranked Raiders (18-1, 11-1), led by forward Sydney Mullings' career-high 20 points on 10-of-16 shooting and nine rebounds, turned the game around with an uptick in defensive pressure. Down 64-57 with six minutes left, they went on a 14-2 run that took less than three minutes. During that surge, they forced six turnovers in a span of seven Northwest possessions. Autumn Durand produced her eight double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Tied at 66-all, she drained a 3-pointer in the wing to give the Raiders the lead for good with 3:30 left. On the ensuing possession, she came up with a steal and dished off for a Mullings layup in transition. The Raiders' 18-game win streak is the longest in team history, eclipsing the 17-game job they took to last year's NAIA Division II championship game. Toria Bradford had 15 points, four assists and three steals, and Tiani Bradford went for 12 points, six rebounds and four steals — including two during the game-changing sequence. SOU shot 29-of-68 from the field but went 8-of-13 in the fourth quarter. Mariah Stacona led the Eagles with 18 points, all from the 3-point line. Charmaine Bradford and Paige Burson scored 13 apiece, but Miranda Langenhorst — who torched SOU for 29 points and 18 boards in the first meeting — was held to seven points on 2-of-6 shooting. The Raiders play at 5:30 p.m. today at The Evergreen State in Olympia. Men's Basketball At Kirkland, Washington, Southern Oregon led the entire way and held on at the end for a 94-91 victory over Northwest, Friday in Cascade Conference play. With the win, SOU moved into fifth place in the CCC with a 7-4 league mark. Northwest (7-5) fell to sixth place. Southern Oregon (13-8) was led by Ben DeSaulnier's 26 points and six rebounds. Tristen Holmes added 21 points with a team-high six assists, and the Raiders shot 56 percent from the floor (35-for-62). Michael Dupree led Northwest (15-5, 7-5 CCC) with 22 points and a game-high seven assists. Dak Shagren scored 18 for the Eagles.
