Tornado falls despite lots of offense BEND -- North Medford High's baseball team scored 29 runs and collected 37 hits in two games Monday against Bend. But the Black Tornado failed to get a win. North fell to Bend 15-14 in the opening game of the non-league doubleheader. The second game was called due to darkness with the score tied at 15-15 in the seventh inning. North Medford held leads of 7-0 and 11-6 in windy conditions during the first game. The Black Tornado took a 14-10 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning but Bend scored five runs off losing pitcher Nate Mayben in the final inning to steal the game. In the second game, North Medford rallied from a 15-13 deficit with two runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game. The Black Tornado had the potential lead run on second base when the game was called. First baseman Colby Gonzales went 5-for-8 for North Medford in the doubleheader. He drove in four runs and scored three. Danny Bruce was 5-for-8 for North and sophomore second baseman Evan McArthur was 5-for-9. Five errors in the second game hurt North's chances. Kelly struck out five in only three innings of work before giving way to Gordon in the fourth. Only one North Medford base runner made it as far as third-base during the game. Catcher Becky Gettman played a solid game defensively for Cascade (4-2), gunning down two would-be base stealers. Boy's Golf ROSEBURG WINS FOUR-WAY SOC MEET -- At Grants Pass, Tyler Miller shot an even-par 72 Monday to lead Roseburg to the top spot in a four-way Southern Oregon Conference meet at the Grants Pass Golf Club. The Indians finished with a team score of 381, followed by second-place South Medford's 387. Roseburg's Jeremy Thorburn and South Medford's Noah Horstman and Steve Hilgendorf finished in a three-way tie for second with a 76.
