Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Apr. 28, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted Apr. 28, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News April 28, 1915 GOOD BASEBALL IN PROSPECT FOR CITY THIS WEEKEND At a recent meeting of the baseball players of this city at Ewing's Gun Store, plans were discussed for the organization of a formidable baseball nine for the coming season, and a committee of three appointed to visit the merchants for the purpose of soliciting contributions towards the maintenance of the club throughout the season. At the meeting a captain for the year was elected in the person of "Speed" Harper, last year's fast second-baseman. The grounds for the season have been secured through an arrangement made with Court Hall, the owner, and already work has begun towards putting the diamond in the best possible shape for the opening game. It is likely that a practice game with Talent or Phoenix will be played Sunday in the local park, since Manager Ewing plans to open the season in earnest about the 10th of May. The club has received numerous offers for games to be played here and surrounding towns, and all these the management expects to accept. This season should be one of the most successful of recent years as many of the old players who are well known to the fans will be seen in the line-up, among them being: "Curley" Wilson, "Shorty" Miles, Walt Antle and Hill, not to mention many new faces that show great promise. MUSICIAN INJURED ON PACIFIC HIGHWAY Pierce Wilson, a musician, lies in a hospital at Ashland seriously injured as a result of an accident on the Pacific Highway near Jackson springs this morning, when he was struck by an auto driven by John C. Praytor. Wilson was walking along the highway when he was passed by J.F. Wortman, who invited him to ride. It took Wortmann about 100 yards in which to stop his car, and Wilson ran to catch up. In so doing, he ran in front of the Praytor car, and was struck. Wilson was rushed at once to Ashland where medical assistance was rendered.
