Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend December 11, 2005 Manor-run apartments provide a housing for some park residents Marjorie Lunsman was understandably upset when the Rogue Valley Manor told her last November she would have to leave the Crest Imperial Mobile Estates within a year. "It was really a sad story, being told you have to uproot and leave," she said. But six months after moving into a one-bedroom apartment run by the Manor, the 86-year-old woman feels differently. "Now, I’m really lucky I got down here," she said. The rent isn’t much more than she was paying before, and Lunsman was able to sell her mobile home. Not wanting to disclose how much she pays, Lunsman would only say that the Manor charges 30 percent of a person’s adjusted gross income. Advertisement She said her misgivings about the move are gone, and she no longer misses her mobile home. Her apartment is "clean and warm and there is a lot of company around," she said. Still Lunsman, who said her son-in-law helped get her the new apartment, worries about her former neighbors who have struggled to find a new place to live. "I felt sorry for a lot of them up there," she said. "I wish some of them had come down with me." Manor spokesperson Sarah Prewitt said she isn’t sure why only six of the more than four dozen mobile home park residents chose to move into Manor housing, although many didn’t meet the qualifying age of 62 or older. She said the Manor also has housing for families that qualify under the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development at the 50-unit Glenridge Terrace on Black Oak Drive. The Manor will begin building a 62-unit facility for seniors on Richardson Drive in Central Point after receiving a $5.2 million grant from HUD. Applications for housing will be available in February or March. While Lunsman feels sorry for her friends at the mobile park, she takes a philosophical approach to her own situation. "I knew there was no use in fighting," she said. "When you’ve got to move, you’ve got to move."
