Man with knife arrested on Ashland Plaza By Morgan Rothborne Updated: Nov 10, 2022 05:20 PM A A Ashland police responded to a call of a disorderly man threatening people with a knife and throwing items at cars at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday on the Ashland Plaza. The suspect, Vander Bevill, 23, of Ashland, allegedly was holding a knife to his throat when Ashland officers arrived, according to a news advisory issued by Ashland police. Officers successfully used the threat of a beanbag shotgun to encourage Bevill to drop the knife, police said. After he dropped the knife, Bevill allegedly fled on foot, but officers were able to take him into custody without further incident, the release said. Bevill was charged with misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct, menacing, unlawful use of a weapon and interfering with a police officer. He was lodged at the Jackson County Jail Wednesday night and released Thursday afternoon. In March of 2022, Bevill was arrested by Central Point police on a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct after he ran into the Astro gas station on Front Street in Central Point and asked staff to call the police, according to an affidavit filed by Central Point police. When police arrived, Bevill reportedly was yelling at staff, incoherent and could not explain how he got to be at the gas station.
