No-cook dessert doubles as spooky scene By Sarah Lemon Updated: Oct 28, 2022 09:31 AM A A Halloween is nigh, so it must be time for some spooky snacks. I’m supposed to contribute food items to my kids’ classrooms for Monday’s fall party. Preferably, it would counteract some of the days’ sugar intake. Short of raw fruits and veggies, my top pick would be the protein-rich “ Graveyard Taco Dip ,” posted for the 2019 holiday to this blog. For anyone who can spread their sugar consumption over a few days, this dessert makes for a fun, no-cook activity with the kids — if you have excess energy since decorating, assembling costumes and carving pumpkins. Preteens could pull this one off without supervision. And for some actual food to fuel weekend parties or trick-or-treaters, check out this week’s food section spread with baked pumpkin recipes . Let stand for 5 minutes. Stir in 3 cups of the thawed dessert topping and half of the Oreo cookie crumbs. Spread into a 9-by-13-inch baking dish or casserole. Sprinkle with remaining Oreo crumbs. Refrigerate for 1 hour. Meanwhile, decorate vanilla sandwich cookies with decorating gel to resemble tombstones. Insert decorated cookies into top of dessert just before serving. Add the candies. Drop large spoonfuls of remaining thawed dessert topping to resemble ghosts. Makes 18 servings. Recipe by Kraft.
