Fog seeds can lead to icy roads I understand that some organization salts the fog at the Medford airport to try to make it rain or snow. This condition places an icy film on the roads around the airport. Because people must drive and walk on this icy film, how do the individuals who cause it reduce their liability in the event of accidents? -- William B., Medford Good question, because the Jackson County Airport Authority has done quite a bit of seeding (including Thursday) to break up the fog and improve visibility so that planes can take off from and land at the Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport. Airport Director Bern Case said his agency sends notices to the Oregon Department of Transportation, police agencies and the news media to inform the public when seeding occurs, normally in the morning. He said it is a tradeoff for the public that benefits air travelers but may be a problem for motorists. "When we send the fax to you, we also send it to them so they can be aware of the seeding," he said. "But it does carry some issues of liability."
