Tough West Albany sweeps Grizz PREP ROUNDUP ASHLAND -- West Albany remained undefeated by taking both ends of a non-conference softball doubleheader from Ashland Monday, 9-2 and 10-6. The Bulldogs (5-0) pounded out 28 hits on the day and gave the Grizzlies a look at some of the best pitching they could face all year. Ashland (3-2) hung tough, though, racking up 12 hits in the second game to make things interesting. "We hit the ball at times," said Ashland coach Kristeen Weiss. "But their defense took away a few would-be hits." The doubleheader was a good tuneup for Southern Oregon Conference play, said Weiss. "It's a good game for us to play early on," she said. "They are one of the better teams in the state and are as good as any team we'll face this year." EAGLE POINT SPLITS -- At Redmond, Eagle Point got its season off to a rousing start with a 9-2 victory over Corvallis in the fifth edition of the Redmond Tournament before dropping a 9-3 decision to the host team in pool play. The Eagles play two more games today, starting at 10:30 a.m. Becca Heady was 2-for-4 with a stolen base and run scored in the opener, while Alaina Corliss had one hit, walked three times, drove in two runs and scored twice. Eagle Point took advantage of seven base on balls. In its second game, a pair of three-run innings by Redmond did in Eagle Point. Redmond scored three in the fourth inning, then put it away with three runs on four hits in the seventh. The Eagles scored in the first inning when Corliss tripled and scored on a passed ball.
