Feds give Talent $682,000 to upgrade Talent Avenue TALENT -- The city has been awarded a $682,000 federal transportation enhancement grant to upgrade a half-mile section of Talent Avenue. The project will fund a variety of street improvements from the bridge over Wagner Creek to Arnos Street. The city will match the grant with $103,000 of its own funds. "This is so exciting because we really need sidewalks on that street," said city administrator Leahnette York. In addition to sidewalks, the city will be installing storm drains, bike lanes, bus turnouts, covered bus stops, street lights and landscaping. The grant will also pay for repairs to the historic bridge crossing Wagner Creek. A second bridge will be constructed to accommodate bicycle and pedestrian traffic over the creek. Work is expected to begin in January 2000. The first improvements to Talent Avenue were initiated by the Talent Urban Renewal Agency in 1996 with similar changes to the street from Wagner Creek to Wagner Avenue.
