By JONEL ALECCIA Mail Tribune Before the car accident, the 50-year-old Medford woman was vibrant, vital and self-employed. But then, last year, her car was broadsided at 50 miles an hour. The other driver had no insurance. The woman almost died. Instead, she suffered severe facial injuries that left her almost unrecognizable along with life-threatening internal injuries. After the plastic surgery and other treatments, she was left with more than $200,000 in medical bills. She wasn’t able to work for months. Recently, she got a part-time job in telephone sales. Advertisement To help cope with the accident aftermath, the woman sought the services of Joel Turgesen, who offers trauma resolution counseling through the Rosewood Institute in Medford. But Turgesen says he was moved to seek help for the woman that goes beyond traditional counseling. "I see her as just doing everything she knows how," he says. "She’s a real fighter." This holiday season, Turgesen decided to ask "Light One Candle" readers to help the woman recover. The one thing she needs now is telephone service, he says. She can’t afford the $40 a month it takes to pay for her existing service and has no family to help, Turgesen says. She needs an affordable cell phone and calling plan to help maintain basic communication with her doctors, insurance representatives and others. "A phone is a pretty vital link," he says.
