In a battle of teams tied for first place in the Southern Cascade League race, Bonanza emerged with a 57-45 triumph Friday. "They pointed out that we need to work a little more on our shooting and our defense," said King, whose team dropped to 9-6, 3-2 in the SCL. "They found some holes in our defense and pointed out we need to plug those up before we play again, and hopefully we will. The kids played hard; we just have a few things to work on." In particular, the Antlers solved the Challengers’ press. "They broke our press very effectively, occasionally," said King. "Just enough that we had trouble with it." Advertisement Bonanza built an eight-point first-quarter lead, but Cascade Christian played it nearly even over the next two quarters. Sophomore wing Katie O’Brien scored 13 points, and senior forward Cara Teterud came off the bench to contribute 10. They helped the Challengers climb within five points in the second half. "Every time we’d make a little run," said King, "they’d make a little bigger one." Alyssa Flager scored 14 for Bonanza. BONANZA (57) — Flager 14, Carpenter 8, Kelly 4, L. Newman 3, S.
