According to a probable cause affidavit, a guest at the Super 8 Motel called Central Point police at 8:52 p.m. to report that his room had been burglarized. Gone were a MacBook Pro, an iPad, a pair of Beats headphones, bank records and a Verizon WiFi hotspot. The victim told officers that when he pinged the location of his iPad, it led him to Medford, where he homed in on a black Dodge Charger. The man started following the Charger, which tried to elude him, according to the affidavit. While police were at the motel, another guest reported his room also had been burglarized and police saw the Charger in the parking lot, the affidavit said. As they were in the lobby trying to find out what room the car was associated with, it drove off.  Thanks to another ping of the stolen iPad, police managed to locate the Charger in the parking lot of Rumors Karaoke Lounge on North Riverside Avenue in Medford. While a Central Point police officer was talking to the driver, 38-year-old James Levi Rapae III, the iPad's owner pinged it again, causing it to make a noise inside the car. When the officer asked what the noise was, the affidavit says, a woman in the car with Rapae handed the officer an iPad. After a code provided by the victim successfully unlocked the iPad, police told Rapae to get out of the car. The affidavit says Rapae allegedly started the car and put it in drive, so officers had to reach in and grab him. According to the affidavit, all of the property reported stolen from both rooms was found inside the car after Rapae consented to a search. Rapae was lodged in the Jackson County Jail on two counts of first-degree burglary, first-degree theft and resisting arrest. Bail is set at $125,000.
