I wanted to know the road conditions on the Siskiyou Pass when I was in Redding so I would know to head on home or find a motel. I used my cell phone to call the Oregon Department of Transportation at 800-977-6368 and got a recorded message saying my call was not accepted as I was out of the toll-free area. How can one find our road conditions in Oregon when in California? — Hugh A., Medford Travelers outside the state who want to check Oregon road conditions can call 503-588-2941. It will be a long-distance call, but will connect callers to the transportation department’s TripCheck recordings that include information about highway and pass conditions, commercial vehicle restrictions and chain requirements. The Caltrans Highway Information System at 916-445-7623 has recorded information on California road conditions, including those in the Siskiyous and the rest of that potentially dicey stretch between Redding and the Oregon state line.
