Toll-free call stops junk mail Several months ago, I found an 800 number to call which used an automated system to remove my name from the numerous credit card application letters that I received every day. After calling the number, my applications dropped from about 10 a month to maybe one every couple months. My friends now want the number to do the same but, unfortunately, I didn't keep it. Can you find the number and print it? -- Diane K., Ashland Set that speed-dial button for this number, Diane: 1-888-567-8688 It will connect you with Experian credit reporting agency's Automated Opt Out request line, which allows consumers to remove their names from lists maintained by four credit reporting agencies -- Experian (formerly TRW), Equifax, Novus and Trans Union. Be prepared to part with some personal information when you call. And rest easy with the knowledge that you can always get all that junk mail back if you feel lonely without it.
