Mail Tribune 100, Nov. 10, 1922 continued By Alissa Corman Nov 12, 2022 12:00 AM A A News from 100 years ago The following news items were drawn from the archives of the Mail Tribune 100 years ago Nov. 10, 1922 continued ‘DARE DEVIL SLIM’ TO STARTLE CITY At 11:45 tomorrow forenoon between Jackson County and Medford National banks the citizens and visitors to Medford will witness an exhibition never before seen in the valley. At considerable expense the Legion has obtained “Dare Devil Slim” Brown of Walla Walla, Wash., who gives fifteen minutes of “Hold Your Breath” exercises upon a slack rope which he rides with a saddle. Reports from northern cities are loud in their praise of “Dare Devil Slim’s” exhibition. According to legion members a record -breaking crowd is expected tomorrow, rain or shine. PERSONALS There was a blanket of 18 inches of snow at the Crater Lake lodge Saturday, according to F. P. Salter, who registered at the Multnomah yesterday. Mr. Salter has the contract on building an addition to the lodge, and the work stopped when the winter storms arrived. Mr. Salter reports that the bears around the lake are hustling for food since the lodge closed and the garbage is no longer available. Mr. Salter, returning to his automobile after a walk to the rim of the lake, found a bear climbing into the back seat of the car to browse for food. — Portland Oregonian ----- One of the attractive window displays of the city is that in Reddy’s jewelry store which represents a scene from Longfellow’s poem, “The Courtship of Miles Standish.” The scene shows John Alden at the home of Priscilla pressing Miles Standish’s suit for her hand. ----- Those local and visiting car owners who run out of gas tomorrow afternoon and forgot the fact that the service stations of the city will close for the day tomorrow at 1 p.m. will be out of luck and may have to do cussing and walking. ----- The first issue for this school year of the Medford High Times, official publication of the Medford high school was distributed today. It is the same high class publication under this year’s editorial staff that it has always been, and is full of interesting news about affair of the student body and comment thereon, interspersed with humorous quips. — Alissa Corman; [email protected]
