Falls job Bill Feusahrens says he's 'just delighted' By Paris Achen Mail Tribune About a month after his demotion from Eagle Point School District superintendent to special services director, BillFeusahrens has left to work for the Klamath Falls City School District. The move to the position of personnel director of the Klamath Falls district put a premature end to Feusahrens' four-year contract with Eagle Point, a district recently embroiled in a string of controversies and litigation with its insurer and one of its construction contractors. "There could have been some awkward moments had I stayed in Eagle Point," saidFeusahrens, who will continue to live in Eagle Point. "With all of us working together we could have overcome the awkwardness. "It was not an easy decision to leave, but in the end, I think it's the best decision and I'm just delighted." Feusahrens took his new position Aug. 1 after Cecelia Amuchastegui, superintendent of Klamath Falls City School District, invited him to apply for it. Advertisement In an inter-district trade, Tony Meek, special education director at the Klamath Falls district, filled Feusahrens' post as special services director at Eagle Point. Meek could not be reached for comment Monday. The Eagle Point School Board's decision to demote Feusahrens on June 23 prompted an outcry from a group of residents who accused the local school policy-making body of disregarding public opinions about the future direction of the school system. School board members have defended their actions but have declined to speak about reasons for the demotion of the three-year superintendent, citing state law that prohibits them from commenting on personnel matters. Kerm Bennett, former principal of Eagle Point High, will serve as interim superintendent in Eagle Point until a permanent replacement is selected in the summer of 2007. A committee of district staff and community members will help choose the new superintendent, board members have said. The school district also has encountered backlash for recently scrapping a proposed arts school that would have been funded by the Oregon Small Schools Initiative. The funding depended on the school being autonomous, which district officials feared would cause scheduling and, thus, financial conflicts between the arts school and the high school. The district's construction contractor, Batzer Inc., claims district officials mismanaged building projects and refused to pay a cost overrun caused by their actions. An arbitrator is expected to rule on that dispute this fall. The district contends that Batzer is responsible for the increase in expenses. The district also recently sued its insurance company, Cincinnati-based Great American Insurance Companies, for not fully compensating it for the cost of replacing of Eagle Point Middle School, which was destroyed in a fire four years ago.
