Old-fashioned circus coming to Cave Junction Monday May 1, 2017 at 12:01 AM By Lisa Whiting Grants Pass Daily Courier CAVE JUNCTION — The big top will be raised May 15 when Culpepper & Merriweather come to entertain the residents of the Illinois Valley with an old-fashioned circus. Scheduled to take place on the lot next to the Junction Inn at 406 S. Redwood Highway, the day's events will begin with the raising of the big top between 9:30 and 10 a.m. The public is invited to watch, and stay for a free tour where the history of the show and facts about its performers, animals and their care will be discussed. Large groups such as school students are encouraged to attend this educational opportunity. The first show under the big top will be at 5 p.m., with a second show at 7:30 p.m. The midway box office will open at 4 p.m. Performances include trapeze and tight-rope artists, prancing ponies, performing jungle cats, American Eskimo dogs, unicyclists and more, all accompanied by the original music of composer Matt Margucci. Advance tickets sales are available at Illinois Valley Family Coalition and Yanase Jewelers: $10 for adults, $7 for children 2-12 and seniors (over 65). Under 2 free. On show day, tickets will be $13 for adults and $8 for children and seniors. The Illinois Valley Coalition is sponsoring the circus. A portion of the proceeds benefit community services and programs.
