The host Indians pulled away from a 38-all tie at the end of three quarters for a 56-42 triumph. Roseburg (11-4) remained undefeated in the SOC at 5-0, while North dropped to 3-2 and 9-6 overall. "We let one slip through our fingers a little bit," said Black Tornado coach Tim Sam, whose team was playing its third straight road game. "We had them on the ropes for three quarters or so and just couldn’t put the ball in the hole in the fourth. It was a great basketball game for three quarters." North made only 2 of 9 field goals in the fourth quarter and had about a two-minute stretch where five layins rimmed out, said Sam. Advertisement The Tornado had battled back from a five-point deficit in the third quarter and led by three at one stage. It made 8 of 12 from the field in the third. "This was a key game for both of us," said Sam. "You beat Roseburg at Roseburg, and you’re in great position with one loss. Now, we’re fighting for a playoff spot." Ryan Lucas scored 14 points for North, which had a tough time with the Indians’ larger front line. Roseburg outrebounded the Tornado, 32-22. Each team turned the ball over 16 times. "Luke had his hands full," said Sam, "but he battled hard. There was a lot of pushing and shoving." Lucas and Ben Running each had five rebounds for North.
