Photo by Bob Pennell Piontkowski goes home to await assault trial By VICKI GUARINO A grateful Lorena Piontkowski hugged her lawyer, eagerly agreed to follow the judge's orders and went home from jail late Wednesday morning. But she still faces charges of attempted murder and attempted assault for trying to shoot a man she is convinced abused her daughter. "Yes sir ... no weapon ... thank you, your honor," Piontkowski responded as Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Loren Sawyer issued terms of her pretrial release: no contact with Elroy Egger, 29, the man she admits trying to shoot, no possession of weapons whatsoever, and weekly check-in with court officials. Photo by Andy Atkinson Young rancher wins top FFA honors By VICKI GUARINO EAGLE POINT - While his classmates saved money for cars, J.B. Dimick saved to buy cows. While his classmates mowed lawns, he cut hay. In doing so, Dimick built a herd of 35 cattle, put 50 acres under lease for hay and now graduates from high school with the top honor from the state Future Farmers of America - Star Farmer of Oregon. FFA officials picked Dimick late last month from among some 4,500 Oregon FFA members. (more . . .) Woman dies in collision with truck By JIM DAVIS PROSPECT - A 20-year-old woman was killed and her boyfriend critically injured Wednesday evening after their car collided with a truck tractor on Highway 62. Carine Michelle Norvez, 20, of Elmhurst, N.Y., died instantly in the accident. Her boyfriend, James Lee, 22, also of Elmhurst, N.Y., was flown by helicopter to Providence Hospital & Medical Center where he was in the intensive care unit, a hospital spokeswoman said.
