Tournament finals Dan Perone will aim for his second straight championship in men's 4.5 singles after defeating David Longmire Saturday at the seventh annual Cataract & Laser Institute Tennis Tournament at the Southern Oregon Tennis Club. Perone downed Longmire 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the finals against Tyler Wilson, a 6-3, 6-1 winner over John Petersen, at 9 a.m. today. Wilson, a former state semifinalist for North Medford High, was a late entry after an injury forced another competitor to pull out. North Medford boys tennis coach Larry Fields advanced to the 3.5 singles finals with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Tom Knackstedt. Fields will face 12-year-old Matthew Pronesti, who beat Dan Graham, 6-2, 6-0, in the championship match. Today's final round begins at 9 a.m., with doubles matches starting in the afternoon. RIVERDOGS 5-6, HUMBOLDT ALL-STARS 0-5 — Kevin Huntley pitched a four-hit shutout in the opener and the Southern Oregon RiverDogs rallied for the victory in the seventh inning of the nightcap at Harry and David Field. In Game 1, the RiverDogs were propelled by a four-run outburst in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead. With one out in the second, Corey O'Neill singled, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Kyle Williamson's RBI double. Marcus James singled and Phil Ouellette followed with an RBI single. B.J. Holloway delivered an RBI single and Tyson Nelson plated the final run with a sacrifice fly. Ouellette went 2-for-2 with two runs to spark the offense. The RiverDogs squandered a 5-0 lead in the second game when Humboldt scored two runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh to tie the game. But Ouellette tripled to open the bottom of the seventh and Tyson Nelson singled him home with the winning run. Nelson had two hits and three RBIs in the nightcap.
