Duncan MacDiramid of St. Mary’s put together the best two runs of the day in winning the boys slalom race. MacDiramid posted an opening run of 42.29 seconds, then bested that mark with a 40.30 run to win in a combined time of 1:22.59. Finishing slightly behind were St. Mary’s teammates Josh Jones (1:24.06) and Ryan Burt (1:24.49) as the Crusaders posted the top team total of the day in 4:11.14. By earning 100 points for Saturday’s win, MacDiramid overcame Lakeview’s Eric Nash for first in the slalom-only standings, 220-210. Lakeview finished second in boys with a combined time of 4:16.77, allowing the Honkers to claim the regular-season slalom title with 40 points compared to 38 by the Crusaders. Advertisement Ashland’s boys finished third on the day (4:27.52) and the season (30 points). North Medford, which had a combined boys time of 4:47.19 Saturday, held down the fourth spot this season with 12 points. In girls slalom action, Ashland’s Jessica Williams finished first with runs of 45.84 and 44.32 for a 1:30.16, while teammate Camila Thorndike was second at 1:32.01 and Annaliesa Harris of St. Mary’s third at 1:37.05. Harris’ 60-point finish was enough to allow the Crusader to hold on to her first-place lead in the slalom-only standings. She finished the season with 260 points while Williams was second at 196. The Grizzlies, who won all the girls slalom meets this season, posted the only complete girls score Saturday with a combined time of 4:36.35. Wrestling SOUTH UMPQUA INVITATIONAL — At Tri City, Phoenix captured four championships and the team title in the four-school event. The Pirates finished first with 86 points followed by South Umpqua (72), Douglas (38) and Myrtle Point (28). Phoenix also took five seconds and three thirds with a team largely composed of backups. The Phoenix champions were: freshman Shyne Tourville (103), freshman Keith Argroves (119), junior Jon Rowden (160), and junior Sam Meyer (189). Pirate runner-ups were: London Westerlund (103), Rey Mroz (119), Zack Glanz (125), David Tokar (130) and Riley Gibson (171) Mark Weigand (112), Chris Sladwick (145) and David Moran (152) finished third for Phoenix. "It was good for our young guys to wrestle some varsity kids in a tournament," Phoenix assistant Joe Hagler said. "This might help us get some points at district." The Skyline Conference district tournament takes place Friday and Saturday at North Valley High.
