Hackett converted a penalty kick in the first minute of overtime, then sealed the victory on another goal with about two minutes remaining in the second 10-minute extra period. "That penalty kick took the air out of us," Crater coach Terry Fretz said. "We had to push girls up in the second overtime to see if we could get the tying goal." Crater (4-2-2, 0-2 SOC) led 2-1 at halftime. The Comets took the initial lead three minutes into the game when Sarah LaFontaine put a through ball to Kasidy Reina, who cut back on the defense and slotted a shot in the far post. Klamath knotted the score at 1-all on Erin Verlings’ goal at the 26th minute. LaFontaine got her 13th goal of the season on a penalty kick at the 30th minute after Emily Brookins was taken down in the box. LaFontaine also has seven assists this season. Claire Edwards tied the game for the Pels midway through the second half. "We had our chances to put the game away," said Fretz. "When you miss the easy chances, they usually come back to haunt you." The teams were even in shots at 10-all, and Crater had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. "Our defense played pretty solid except for a couple of lapses, and they capitalized," said Fretz. "KU counter attacks as much as possible to put the other team on the defensive." NORTH MEDFORD 8, EAGLE POINT 0 — At Eagle Point, junior sweeper Whitney Major converted three penalty kicks and junior left midfielder Kadi Driver knocked home two headers as North Medford rolled. The Black Tornado (5-1-3, 2-0) also received two goals from junior forward Nicole Vilarino and one from senior central midfielder Lisa Munyon. North outshot Eagle Point (0-2 SOC), 26-7, and led 5-0 at the half before mixing up its lineup. SOUTH MEDFORD 7, ASHLAND 1 — At Ashland, senior fullback Vanessa Lloyd netted her first goal of the season to begin South Medford’s scoring barrage. At 12½ minutes into the match, Lloyd put a shot from 40 yards into the upper V to give the Panthers the first of six opening-half goals. By intermission, Emma McConnell and St. Mary’s transfer Emily Smith accounted for two goals each. Freshman Katrina Stevens finished off the first-period scoring with an unassisted goal. Ashland avoided the shutout nine minutes into the second half when freshman Madaline Stokes converted on a high, looping shot from 30 yards. Sophomore Kelsey Corbin completed the scoring on Katrina Stevens’ assist with about five minutes remaining. South midfielder Heidi Meador controlled the distribution of the ball, handed out an assist and helped on the defensive end. South Medford (6-1-1, 2-0 SOC) outshot the Grizzlies 11-2 in the first half and finished with a 24-9 advantage. The Panthers took four corner kicks to one for Ashland. GRANTS PASS 1, ROSEBURG 0 — At Roseburg, Patina Taylor took matters into her own feet, so to speak, in scoring the game’s lone goal in the 36th minute for Grants Pass. Taylor dribbled the ball out of the backfield, looking to pass for much of the way before sending a through ball to herself, catching Roseburg (3-5-1, 0- 2 SOC) off-guard as she deposited a shot into the corner of the net. Grants Pass (5-3-1, 1-1 SOC) managed an 11-4 edge in shots on goal, with Karyne Sander posting her second shutout in regulation.
