After struggling to a 5-4 record against a pair of Class 4A teams and in two tournaments, Phoenix finally enjoyed a little home cooking. "We’ve had our troubles so far but it has made playing at home that much more exciting," Phoenix coach Dennis Dixon said. "It will make us better." The biggest change the Pirates saw at home was improved ballhandling. Phoenix committed five fewer turnovers than Yreka, and turned those into 20 points. "We did a lot better job of taking care of the ball tonight," Dixon said. "We had been turning it over a lot. We’re a young team and we are learning." Advertisement Justin Krafft, playing his first game as Phoenix’s point guard, led all players with 25 points. Senior teammate Nathan Bursk scored a season-high 17 points, including three 3-pointers.
