By JONEL ALECCIA Mail Tribune Things are looking up for a single father of three boys living in Medford. They’ve moved out of the shelter where they were living and into their own place. The father’s job has remained steady and he’s grateful for that. Still, he works long hours, which makes it a struggle to raise kids ages 6, 10 and 12 alone. Dental care is important, but it’s been one of the last priorities for this dad and his boys. Through the Kids Health Connection, a social service agency that provides health care in local schools, the boys have been able, finally, to see dentists. The 10-year-old recently had several teeth pulled because of cavities. This holiday season, good toothbrushes, dental floss, toothpaste and other oral hygiene products would help prevent further tooth decay, said Karen Holt, program director for the agency. Advertisement The boys could use other basics as well: new socks, new underwear, hats, gloves, scarves, all in boy’s sizes medium and large and men’s size medium. Because of the father’s long hours at work, the boys spend a lot of time alone. Games they can play together would be welcome. A scholarship to the Rogue Valley Family YMCA or payment for a class at Kids Unlimited, places where they’d receive quality care after school, also would be welcome.
