Mazama drops Phoenix KLAMATH FALLS � Mazama halted a two-game Skyline Conference losing streak with a 51-40 victory over Phoenix in girls baskeball Tuesday. Viking senior guard Mindy Bishop posted a game-high 19 points and Marcy Burk added 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists. "We were finally ready to play," Mazama coach Shad Ballard said. "We were pretty solid defensively and rebounded really well. We eliminated their second-chance shots." Phoenix (7-5, 4-2 Skyline) was led by Chelsi Clark with 13 points, but Clark appeared to be playing injured. "She (Clark) seemed to shoot the ball half-way decent," said Ballard, "but looked like she was favoring her knee quite a bit. We were able to get by her and take advantage on the offensive end." Mazama senior post Jandee Kahl contributed nine points and eight rebounds. ILLINOIS VALLEY 55, HIDDEN VALLEY 49, 2OT � At Murphy, Rachel Pierce scored 18 points to lead Illinois Valley to a come-from-behind, double-overtime win. Jennifer Brown put Hidden Valley up by one with two free throws and seven seconds left in regulation. Pierce countered with 1-of-2 from the line just five seconds later to send the game into overtime. Sheena Gannon, who led the Mustangs with 22 points, sent the contest into a second overtime with a game-tying 3-pointer. Illinois Valley, however, outscored Hidden Valley 11-5 the rest of the way for the win. Shey Ford pulled down 18 rebounds for the Mustangs (5-10, 2-4 Skyline), who will be without Skyline Conference leading scorer Jennifer Bain. The junior wing tore her ACL and is lost for the season. The Knights (7-8, 4-2 Skyline Conference) led 12-6 after one period and 27-16 at the half. Bobbi Wright exploded for 17 second-half points and 19 in all for the Chieftains. Emily Mills dished out five assists to go along with five steals while Breanna and Stacey Maupin contributed seven rebounds apiece.
