�Whiz kid� will head north Mail Tribune/Bob Pennell A lot of hard work in two areas of study has paid off for Jeffrey Chang, who will graduate magna cum laude from Southern Oregon University Saturday. Chang has been hired by one of the world�s top five certified public accounting firms and will move to Portland in August. SOU senior graduates to plum job in Portland By Sara Murphy ASHLAND � Everything�s adding up just right for Jeffrey Tse-Hao Chang. At 22, he has an investment portfolio, a job lined up with one of the world�s top five certified public accountant firms and a great big smile. Saturday morning, Chang will be one of 1,054 students to graduate from Southern Oregon University. He�ll wrap up a four-year college career with magna cum laude honors and a double-major in computer science and business administration. SOU marketing officials have dubbed him the "whiz kid." He�s the type of student professors call "a pleasure." "The kid�s just an outstanding student," says Dennis Varin, head of the master of business administration program at SOU. "There�s no other way to describe him." Chang is a dedicated student, a team player and, by all accounts, a real nice guy. "When you look at him on paper, you�d think he would be a kind of flaunting, arrogant person, but he�s not," says Janice Swanson, an associate business professor and Chang�s academic adviser. "He�s just the kindest young man I�ve ever run across." "He�s too nice and he�s too smart," says classmate Chris Zwemke. As a teen, Chang moved to the United States from Taipei, Taiwan. He came alone, spending a year in Los Angeles before moving in with an uncle in Ashland. He graduated from Ashland High School in 1996 and was accepted at several universities, including Purdue in Indiana and the University of California at Irvine. Instead, he chose Southern. "Even though I gave up the chance to go to Purdue, I don�t think I missed much," Chang says. "It�s a matter of putting in the effort."
