Despite a foul-plagued evening by All-American forward Shea Washington, the Raiders evened their season record at 6-6 and improved to 3-1 in league play with a trio of impressive performances by Jeff Williams, Brad Coen and Travis Elam. Williams amassed season-highs of 18 points and 16 rebounds, while Coen scored 18 on 7-for-11 shooting. Meanwhile, Elam came off the bench for 15 points and seven rebounds. Washington finished with six points and eight rebounds. The Geoducks (6-11, 1-3) lost their fourth straight contest despite receiving a game-high 20 points along with 11 rebounds from senior forward Walter Tucker. SOU started the game 7-for-8 to take a 17-9 lead and built a 38-30 halftime edge, but a 5-0 Geoduck run tied the game 60-60 with 6:25 left. Women’s Basketball EVERGREEN STATE 73, SOUTHERN OREGON 59 — At Ashland, the Evergreen State College women’s basketball team extricated itself from the Cascade Conference cellar by downing Southern Oregon University. The Geoducks (6-8, 1-3 CC) picked up their first league win of the season by storming to a comfy 37-23 halftime lead and holding off a Raider rally midway through the second half. Senior guard Heather Hyde sparked TESC’s second victory in Ashland in as many years by canning seven of 12 shots for 16 points, while sophomore forward Jenny Olson compiled 12 points and seven rebounds. The Raiders fell to 2-13 overall and 1-3 in league play despite a game-high 19-point, eight-rebound effort by junior guard Courtney Bothum. TESC stormed out of the gates and never trailed. The Clams shot a sizzling 55 percent in the opening 20 minutes while limiting SOU to a miserable 8-for-28, 29-percent clip. The Raiders pulled within nine (59-50) following a pair of free throws by Andi Peterson, but Evergreen put the game away with a 12-2 run highlighted by a 3-pointer from Kamrica Ary-Turner.
