Young motored home on a two-out throwing error that sailed past the North Valley first baseman for the 2-1 victory. The Knights rolled to a 7-0 win in the opener. North Valley’s (1-1 Skyline) Ariah Nead and Henley’s Kyle Thomas were locked in a pitchers’ dual throughout with Nead striking out seven and Thomas fanning nine. In Game 1, Drew Dechenne limited the Hornets (2-4, 1-1 Skyline) to just two hits, while his teammates pounded out nine of their own during the rout. Luke Hall led the Knights with three hits and B.J. Willingham added two. The Hornets compiled 16 hits over both games and won handily despite collecting just three base hits in the nightcap. Catcher Michelle Beck was a defensive bright spot for North Valley, picking off three runners and throwing out two more on stolen base attempts. The Knights (3-4, 0-2 Skyline) committed nine errors overall and managed only six hits. Boys Golf SKYLINE BOYS — At Grants Pass, Hidden Valley’s Jared Delay earned medalist honors and the Mustangs finished first overall during a three-team event at the Grants Pass Golf Club. Delay shot an 80, while Hidden Valley’s 364 team score edged out Phoenix (369) for the top spot. Mazama took third with a 389. Nelson Keating led the Pirates with an 89, while teammate Dave Moran shot a 91. HIDDEN VALLEY (364) — Jared Delay 39-41—80, Billy Muir 42-46—88, Nick Orozco 51-46-97, Ryan Ruska 46-51-97.
