The Raiders (8-3, 2-0 CC) host eighth-ranked Eastern Oregon (10-1, 2-0) Friday and College of Idaho (4-9, 1-1) Saturday. Both games start at 5:30 p.m. New conference rules call for alternating start times for men's and women's games. The men play the early games of doubleheaders for the first half of the season. Southern Oregon looks to bounce back after a nonconference setback at William Jessup last weekend. Despite the loss, the Raiders received votes in this week's NAIA national poll. Southern Oregon continues to rank as one of the best in the nation defensively. The Raiders are sixth in the NAIA with a .378 field goal percentage defense. Junior Jordan Highland leads the team and ranks sixth in the conference in scoring at 15.5 points per game. Highland also ranks seventh in field goal percentage at .563 and 15th in free throw percentage at .757. Freshman Kyle Tedder ranks 15th in the conference in scoring at 12.9 per game and is seventh in 3-pointers made at 2.45 per game. Eastern Oregon, ranked in the top 10 for the third straight week, has been idle since Dec. 4. The Mountaineers are No. 2 in the NAIA in 3-pointers made (10.5 per game) and sixth in scoring (88.5 per game). Junior Jamar Johnson leads Eastern in scoring at 15.9 per game and is 10th in 3-point percentage at .500. College of Idaho is led by point guard Miguel Rodriguez, who ranks 10th in the nation in assists with 5.9 per game. Women's Basketball The Southern Oregon women will open the home portion of the Cascade Conference schedule with a pair of huge contests this weekend. The Raiders (7-6, 1-1) host 20th-ranked Eastern Oregon (10-1, 2-0) Friday and preseason favorite College of Idaho (6-6, 1-1) Saturday. Both games will start at 7:30 p.m. The weekend will be a chance for the Raiders to break away from a group of five teams in the conference standings that enter this weekend all with one loss. The up-and-down season for the Raiders continued last weekend as they split a pair of games at Oregon Tech's Yellow Cap Classic. After knocking off Cal State Maritime Friday night, the Raiders couldn't buy a basket and fell to a winless William Jessup squad after shooting 29 percent from the field. Against William Jessup, senior guard Whitney Scott started to regain her outside shooting touch, hitting five 3-pointers and finishing with a season-high 21 points. Scott now is tied with Megan Winchester (1994-98) with 193 career 3-pointers. Scott has also moved into seventh place on the school's career scoring list with 1,236 points. She needs just 16 more points to move past Nicole Whitney (1992-94) into sixth place. Scott also ranks second on the career 3-point attempt list. Scott leads the Raiders in scoring at 12.2 per game. Sophomore Alexi Smith averages 11.2 points. Eastern Oregon comes into McNeal Pavilion after winning seven straight games and ranked 20th in this week's NAIA top 25 poll. The Mountaineers lead the nation in 3-point field goal percentage (.447) and 3-point field goal percentage defense (.197). Shaylee Nielsen leads Eastern in scoring at 11 points per game, while Nicole Redd goes for 10.9 points per outing. College of Idaho was picked to win the Cascade Conference in the preseason and much like the Raiders have struggled out of the gate. The Coyotes are led by one of the league's top individuals. Senior Nicole Gall ranks 12th nationally in scoring at 19 points per game and is in the top 10 in 3-pointers per game (3.4) and steals per game (3.5).
