Berryman cites city�s progress Mayor stresses continuing need for united effort By Jessica Smith Medford�s mayor says the city is providing for youths, providing for working people and it�s providing for families. Building a skateboard park, hiring an economic development coordinator, creating a plan to make streets safer by improving sidewalks � these are examples of how the city of Medford served the community over the past year, Mayor Lindsay Berryman said. In her second "state of the city" address Thursday, Berryman outlined her take on the progress the city has made in attaining the vision created for Medford last June. "Our vision cannot be piecemeal. Every decision we make has an impact on varied groups and interests," Berryman said. "So we weigh the issues, we discuss them ... . In this process, we have accomplished a great deal." In a speech focusing on the city�s year-old vision plan, Berryman said the city has: Started work on a creekside development plan that is intended to clean up Bear Creek. Completed upgrades to the wastewater treatment plant to provide for future expansion and growth. Hired an economic development coordinator to oversee the city�s first economic development strategy that will strengthen local businesses and attract new ones. Develop a neighborhood revitalization plan that provides incentives for in-fill development, among other goals. But there�s more work to be done, Berryman said, addressing city employees and community members Thursday in her annual address. "We all share in these accomplishments, as we all share responsibility for making Medford the best city our citizens can provide and deserve," Berryman said. "There are many problems to solve ... by continuing to talk together and work together." In her remarks, Berryman outlined goals for the future that included relieving congestion at Medford�s freeway interchanges and Highway 62; expand drug, parks and youth programs; and encourage downtown Medford�s growth as an educational and cultural center.
