PREP ROUNDUP: RVA snags pair of sweeps By Mail Tribune staff Sep 14, 2022 09:10 PM A A GILCHRIST — Getting strong serving from much of its roster, the Rogue Valley Adventist volleyball team picked up a pair of Mountain Valley League wins over Central Christian and Gilchrist Wednesday evening at Gilchrist High. RVA (7-0, 30-0 MVL) beat Central Christian 25-14, 25-16, 25-9 and then picked up another straight-set win over Gilchrist 25-10-25-13, 25-13. “What was working for us was excellent serving,” said RVA head coach Brad Parmenter. “Our girls served really well and we served them off the court. Otherwise, I wouldn’t say we weren’t outstanding in any other way, but we just served really well.” RVA senior Emma Bischoff had 11 kills, 11 aces, two blocks and five digs against Central Christian, then added six kills and eight assists against Gilchrist. Fellow senior Destinee Quattrocelli finished with three kills, 12 assists, four digs and one block in the opener and eight assists and 11 aces against the host Grizzlies. Senior Michaela Porter had seven kills, 10 aces, two blocks and six digs combined in the two matches, while senior Isabell Zamora had three digs against Gilchrist. Girls Soccer ASHLAND 6, MAZAMA 0: At Ashland, six different Ashland players scored goals as the Grizzlies remained unbeaten on the young season with a shutout victory at Walter A. Phillips Field. Ashland’s Ivy Clason, Bri Gibbs and Lena Caballero Uhtoff each had a goal and an assist. Clason assisted the Grizzlies’ opener, scored by Kendra Caruso in the 18th minute, before scoring with three minutes to go before halftime on a loose ball in the penalty area. Iniana Hammond also scored a first-half goal for the Grizzlies (3-0), who were able to build a 3-0 halftime lead over the Class 4A Vikings. Gibbs scored two minutes into the second half on a nice volley after the ball was punched out by the Mazama keeper. Caballero Uhtoff scored three minutes later on a long run through the Vikings defense before setting up Jane Cruce for the final goal of the game. The Ashland defense did not allow a shot on goal by Mazama (0-3). volleyball.jpg
