The Oregon Department of Transportation expects "significant delays" for motorists driving along the freeway between Azalea and Canyonville. A resurfacing project and a pair of bridge- replacement projects have reduced I-5 to a single lane of travel in each direction, ODOT spokesman Jared Castle said in a news release. "These projects require lane closures to remain in place during Thanksgiving," said Sue D’Agnese, ODOT traffic manager. "Delays could extend two to three miles in each direction." Officials expect traffic will be heaviest on Wednesday and Sunday afternoons. During those periods, motorists could be delayed for as long as an hour, Castle said. ODOT crews will continue working today on a freeway-resurfacing project between south Medford and Ashland, but will not be on the job Wednesday through Sunday, said Gary Leaming of ODOT. "The goal is for them to clear out of the way for holiday travelers," Leaming said. The freeway will be narrowed today to one lane in the work zone between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. Travelers are advised to consider alternate routes, adjust travel times to non-peak hours and leave additional time to get to a destination.
