Cascade Christian wins IV tournament CAVE JUNCTION - Tournament MVP Kim Hamilton scored 15 points and Laural Kelley added 12 points and tenacious defense to lead Cascade Christian to a 53-36 victory over Illinois Valley in the championship game of the Illinois Valley Holiday Basketball Tournament. The Challengers led just 26-24 at halftime as Illinois Valley sophomore wing Kim Hamilton poured in 15 first-half points. Cascade Christian coach Loren King assigned Kelley to guard Hamilton in the second half, and Hamilton managed only a late 3-point basket over the final 16 minutes of play. "Laural's defense in the second half was huge," King said. "She really made a difference, and the whole team picked it up defensively." Illinois Valley managed only two points in the third period, when Cascade Christian extended its lead to 35-26. Senior post Amy Roseberg also had 12 points for the Challengers. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Challengers following a season-opening loss to Santiam Christian. Klingel went 6-for-7 from the field for 15 points and added 10 assists. Moon had 19 points on 8-for-12 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds. The Indians (4-3) were led by senior wing Lindsey Heard, who tallied a game-high 13 points, and senior post Shannon Burmeister, who grabbed nine rebounds to go with eight points. Senior wing Jennifer Bain had 13 points for Hidden Valley, which outscored the Huskies 27-4 in the second half. Ashley Stewart paced the Honkers (6-2) with 11 points and Fran Hartman grabbed 15 rebounds. Lakeview advanced to the finals with a 50-26 victory over Summit of Bend on Friday.
