The team had told the Warrenton native he would be cut after the final preseason game, then re-signed once he cleared waivers, and it followed through Monday, according to the team’s Web site. McGrorty will make about half of the $230,000 for which he originally signed. McGrorty shattered 10 school or Northwest small-college records and compiled 5,414 rushing yards and 79 touchdowns during his Raider career. Meeting tonight for South girls youth basketball An informational meeting for South Medford girls youth basketball will be at 7 tonight in the high school’s little theater. Team selections will take place in the school gym Saturday from 8 to 9:30 a.m. for eighth-graders, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. for seventh-graders and from 10 to 11:30 a.m. for fifth- and sixth- graders. Medford Linebackersto meet Friday at noon The Medford Linebackers’ first meeting of the fall will be at noon Friday at J.J. North’s in Medford. Lunch is $7. Featured speakers include North Medford football coach Rod Rumrey, St. Mary’s football coach Bob Metcalf and Tom Welter, executive director of the Oregon School Activities Association. Welter will be in town Friday to present North Medford High with the Oregonian Cup for Class 4A excellence during the 2003-04 school year. The Oregonian Cup began in 1999 as a way to recognize overall excellence by schools in academics, activities and athletics. Schools earn points based on their participation and finish in OSAA State Championships and for top-10 finishes in the OSAA academic all-state program, sponsored by the Dairy Farmers of Oregon. A sportsmanship component, whereby schools are awarded points each season for having no ejections, is included as well.
