The unbeaten Grizz moved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the Southern Oregon Conference with a 9-0 drubbing at Stewart Park and the South Umpqua Tennis Club. The match was moved to the latter site due to inclement weather conditions. No Roseburg player managed to win more than two games. "We made all the easy shots, and we served well," Ashland coach Dick Streng said. "We’ve got a senior-dominated team, and these kids are just playing at a very high level right now." Ashland No. 1 singles player Michael James incorporated tough serving to romp past Joe Lee, 6-0, 6-1. No. 2 singles player Jonathan Willing and No. 3 singles player Shane Lloyd also won handily and remained unbeaten on the season. SINGLES — Michael James, A, d. SOUTH MEDFORD 8, GRANTS PASS 1 — At Grants Pass, the Panthers (4-2) only lost one match to take home the victory over Grants Pass. In No. 3 doubles play, Ray Chirgwin and Greg Larson dropped the first set, 6-2, but came back strong to take the next two sets, 6-2 and 6-0. SINGLES — Justin Stevens SM, d. Girls Tennis ASHLAND 6, ROSEBURG 3 — At Ashland, Camille Morris battled back from a second-set loss to continue her undefeated streak as the Grizzlies improved to 3-0 in SOC matches. Morris (2-0 SOC) won the first set, 6-2, dropped the second, 6-3, then fought back to take the third, 7-6 in a 7-1 tiebreaker. In doubles matches, Ashland’s Chelsea Van Lehn and Kate Morris took their match in two sets, 6-2, 6-2. The partners are 3-0. SINGLES — Becky Correll, R, d. GRANTS PASS 8, SOUTH MEDFORD 1 — Grants Pass swept all five singles matches at Fichtner-Mainwaring Park The Panthers’ team of Emma Close and Kelly Rulon posted the only victory for South in the No. 1 doubles. Girls Golf DISTRICT SIX — In Grants Pass, conditions on the course made things a little tricky for golfers as Hidden Valley posted a score of 431 to take the win in the five team competition. Sisters Luemma and Amanda Tate posted a 101 and 104 to help lead the Mustangs. Phoenix’s Caroline Keating took the medalist honors with a score of 88.
