Grants Pass police make arrest after report of shooting downtown Tuesday Jan 3, 2017 at 5:01 PM Jan 3, 2017 at 5:01 PM By Troy Shinn Grants Pass Daily Courier A man was arrested at gunpoint at a busy intersection in downtown Grants Pass Tuesday morning following reports of a shooting. Police received several calls about a gunshot wound and a man possibly armed with a gun on the corner of Seventh and J streets, next to the Daily Courier, around 10:38 a.m. Multiple patrol cars quickly converged on the location, with officers pointing pistols and rifles at a snow-covered car parked on J Street at the intersection. A single male occupant was removed from the car, along with a dog, around 10:45 a.m. It was not immediately clear whether there was a shooting. Police scanner traffic indicated that the injured person may have driven himself off before police could respond to the scene. The name of the suspect was not immediately available. A witness in the Daily Courier parking lot said he saw a car sideswipe a parked car on J Street, and the male driver get out and aggressively confront the driver of the sideswiped car. A little later he heard a gunshot. "He was kicking the car and screaming and yelling," said Gerald Tetzlaff, who works in the Daily Courier post-press room. "That's when I heard the pop. He grabbed the top of his head, then got back in his car and peeled off." Jeff Duewel of the Daily Courier contributed to this report.
