Poppa shines at Speedway WHITE CITY - Brian Poppa took a lead that he never gave back on Saturday night at the Southern Oregon Speedway. The veteran driver grabbed the top spot just before the midway point of the Lon Skinner Memorial 50 and held off a variety of challenges to earn the $1,000 first prize. A yellow flag on the 47th lap of the race gave Tom Glover and Dane Smith one last chance to catch Poppa, who steered clear of every obstacle to win the race. Lenny Toolanen led for the first 24 laps. Poppa took the lead on the 25th lap as the drivers were required to take a pit stop midway through the race. Toolanen pitted early in the second half of the race and was never a factor after that. Glover finished second. Jim Walker Jr. continued his dominance in the pro stocks. Rick Norman led through the first 20 laps of the 25-lap main event before Walker took charge. His brother Tony grabbed the top spot briefly, taking over from Norman on the lap 21 before Jim Jr. moved ahead on the next lap and went on to take the checkered flag and $500 for his efforts. Clarence Cole Jr. won an exciting feature event in the mini stocks, overtaking Pat Akins on the final lap of the race. Points leader Tom Lanigan was second in the feature.
