Mail Tribune 100, June 15, 1922 By Alissa Corman Jun 15, 2022 12:00 AM A A News from 100 years ago The following news items were drawn from the archives of the Mail Tribune 100 years ago June 15, 1922 PARLOR TEA ROOM MAKING HIT WITH MEDFORD PATRONS A new business venture catering to the better class of the public and inaugurated three weeks ago in quarters above the Woolworth store is proving popular with the dining out public. It is the Parlor Tea Rooms, which is operated under the management of Mrs. Claire Fancher. The idea of dining in a quiet, cool place amid well furnished pleasant surroundings and appointments has made a bit not only with the women of the city but the men also. At first the masculine patrons were scarce as it was generally thought that the Parlor Tea Rooms catered only to women and served only tea and light things such as wafers, cakes and salad. But now that it is known that good substantial food and dainties, cooked in home style, with liberal helpings is served at reasonable prices, the men, especially business men, are swelling the patronage. Patrons at all times are invited to inspect the commodious kitchen and its appointments. Another feature of this cafe that is welcomed by those housewives of the city who on occasions do not want to prepare meals at home is that they can give notice a reasonable time ahead and the Parlor Tea Rooms will cook the meal for them and deliver it smoking hot at home for the table ready to be served. The cafe also prepares picnic lunches and other special lunches to be taken out. The Parlor Tea Rooms are open daily from 11:30 to 8 p.m. during which times lunches, ices and drinks are served all the time, but a specialty is made of a 75 cent three-course dinner served from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Also from 11:30 to 2 p.m. a plate luncheon is served. The cafe will also be open, by special arrangement, for after theater and other private dinner parties and caters to bridge and luncheon parties during the day and night hours. Another specialty being planned is a chicken dinner from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Saturdays for business men and others, and the serving of chicken noodles, Chinese style, every Monday at luncheon hours. — Alissa Corman; [email protected]
