SOU track team fares well at WOU meet MONMOUTH � The Southern Oregon University track team had several individuals fare well Saturday at the 34-team Western Oregon Intercollegiate meet. SOU�s Tiwanna Merritt took first in the women�s 200-meter event with a time of 25.84 and grabbed the top spot in the 400 with a 58.09 winning mark. Merritt teamed up with Andrea Eide, Kena Page and Laura Lincoln to capture second with a time of 49.32 in the women�s 4-100 relay. In men�s 110 high hurdles, Joe Sheire crossed the line with a first-place time of 15.89, while Lincoln took third in the women�s 100 hurdles at 16.01. Sean Peterson took the men�s 800 (1:57.27), while North Medford graduate Nick Dunn finished third in the 400 hurdles at 54.95. Former South Medford High standout Eric McKenzie placed third in the 200 in 22.45. In the field events, Nicole Irons grabbed third in women�s pole vault by clearing 10-foot-7, and Page leaped to a second-place finish in long jump with a mark of 16-8. Tennis ASHLAND � The Albertson College women�s tennis team left little doubt in who was the best Cascade Conference team at this point in the season. The Coyotes (6-1, 4-0) clinched the school�s first-ever tennis loop crown with an 8-1 dual-meet win over Southern Oregon University on Saturday. With the win, Albertson swept the season series from the Raiders (9-2, 3-2) for the first time in program history. "I knew we were going to have to be on the top of our game," said SOU coach Gail Patton. "They actually had a stronger team come here than the team they had when we went to their place." Junior Julie Nelson of Grants Pass picked up the lone victory for SOU and extended her school-record singles win streak to 11 with a 7-6, 6-3 triumph over Erin Teagle. "I tried not to play a match right after finals week but this was the only week they could come," said Patton. "The team gave it their all, but it just wasn�t there. The good news it put into focus what we need to work on." The Raiders, which had a season-opening eight-dual win streak snapped with a 6-3 setback to Albertson last Saturday, completes the regular season on April 6-7 at Pacific University and Evergreen State.
