Wimer fire destroys building full of cannabis Friday Oct 20, 2017 at 4:37 PM Oct 20, 2017 at 4:57 PM A Thursday night structure fire in Wimer destroyed a building full of cannabis. The incident happened at 10:25 p.m. at a recreational marijuana grow at 5463 E. Evans Creek Road, according to Evans Valley Fire Chief Bill Fuller. The property's two residents reportedly heard a popping noise, then saw smoke in the 2,500-square-foot building, Fuller said. The residents called 911 and Evans Valley Fire responded with an engine and a water tender, but when they got there smoke and flames were billowing out of the structure. Rogue River Fire arrived with an additional engine and water tender. Crews then upgraded the incident to a second alarm, which drew a third engine from the Grants Pass Fire Department. Crews had the flames knocked down within an hour but had to remain on scene as numerous hot spots kept popping up. The building and marijuana — about 600 pounds of product, Fuller said — were destroyed. No one was injured. The cause of the fire was still under investigation, though Fuller said he is confident they will be able to determine one because of cameras on the property. "There's video of the start of the fire. It will tell us exactly what happened," Fuller said.
