Four vie for two spots on City Council Steve Mitchell and Linda Kristich; Chester Krupa and Shari Tarvin photos unavailable Monday Oct 24, 2016 at 2:00 AM Oct 24, 2016 at 8:28 AM The following are contenders for two four-year terms on the Shady Cove City Council. Ballots were mailed Friday and are due back to the Jackson County Elections Office by 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8. Linda Kristich Age: 60 Occupation: Designer Education: Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Design Political experience: None Top priorities: 1) I will oppose the introduction of fees and regulations on the residents of Shady Cove. 2) I intend to support small business and encourage new businesses to locate in Shady Cove. Chester Krupa Age: 69 Occupation: Driver for seniors and disabled Education: High school graduate Political experience: School Board for a year Top priorities: 1) I would like to find ways for improvements in Shady Cove to benefit our local residents and businesses. 2) I would also like to discourage the sale of recreational marijuana; two businesses selling this product in our small town I feel is excessive. It certainly is an attractive nuisance for our youth. Steve Mitchell Age: 67 Occupation: Retired Education: Two years of college Political experience: Served seven years on a planning commission; served four years as council member in El Sobrante, California; currently serving second year on Shady Cove City Council Top priorities: Responding to residents' concerns about odors from outdoor grows of marijuana and the recreational use of marijuana within our city. 2) Finally preparing for the improvements to Highway 62 next year and the impact the construction will have on our local businesses and residents. Shari Tarvin Age: 53 Occupation: Retired Education: Technical schooling Political experience: None, served in U.S. military nine years Top priorities: My top priority is to be a voice for the citizens of our community, to listen to their concerns and questions. I have been a resident of the Rogue Valley for many years and believe it is time to step up to the plate and be an advocate for our community. I am very passionate for the welfare of our seniors and veterans. I am an ordinary person with old-fashioned values who would love to serve the citizens of Shady Cove.
