Speer captures honor; Raiders climb to No. 23 Feb 03, 2009 12:00 AM A A ASHLAND — Southern Oregon junior post Jacki Speer has been named the Cascade Conference women's basketball player of the week. Speer helped lead the Raiders to an upset of then-eighth-ranked College of Idaho on Friday. SOU then topped Eastern Oregon on Saturday. The victories improved the Raiders to 19-4 overall and 11-3 in conference. Southern Oregon moved up two spots to No. 23 in this week's NAIA top-25 poll. Speer averaged 16.5 points and 14.5 rebounds last weekend. The preseason conference player of the year's weekend was highlighted by a 12-point, 20-rebound performance against the College of Idaho. She then went for 21 points and nine rebounds against Eastern Oregon. Speer has 14 double-doubles on the year and is averaging a double-double with 15.7 points and 10.4 rebounds. SOU, winner of eight straight, hosts Cascade College Friday and Warner Pacific Saturday.
