Islands installed in 1997 Please settle a small argument if you will: How long has the traffic divider with the trees been in place on Stewart Avenue near Grape Street? -- Anne W., Central Point Those particular tree islands were added about August 1997 by the city of Medford. The islands were part of an overall project to improve Stewart Avenue, said Tom Smith, an engineering technician with Medford Public Works.
