Dunlap powers Mustangs to sweep HERMISTON - The Medford Mustangs continued their winning ways Tuesday, defeating the Hermiston Heat, 5-4 and 13-3 in five innings, in an American Legion doubleheader. Travis Dunlap blasted his sixth home run of the season, a three-run shot estimated at 420 feet, to highlight Game 2. Dunlap went 1-for-3 with four RBIs in the game. Shawn Backstrom went 3-for-4 with one RBI and Tony Conklin had two hits and two RBIs. Jon McCollum pitched all five innings and picked up his first win as the Mustangs won their eighth straight. In Game 1, Tyler Engle singled in the top of the seventh inning with two outs to score Evan McArthur from third and give the Mustangs the go-ahead run. Chris Empio came on in the bottom of the seventh and retired the Heat in order to get his second save of the season. Dunlap went 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI in the opener, while Backstrom drove in two. The Mustangs (21-13) travel to Portland to play a doubleheader against Wilson and North Marion today. The Mustangs will play five more road games before returning home to play Central Point on Monday.
