PREP BASEBALL Wolff, North keep Wolverines at bay Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Apr. 6, 2016 at 2:00 AM Posted Apr. 6, 2016 at 2:00 AM » Social News North Medford bounced back from a rough outing Saturday to play error-free defense on Tuesday and senior right-hander Greyson Wolff kept Willamette at bay for the most part for a 3-1 Southwest Conference baseball victory. Wolff struck out 11 with three walks and three hits allowed in seven innings to improve to 3-0 on the mound for the Black Tornado (6-3, 3-1 SWC), which was coming off a seven-error outing in a 5-4 loss to South Medford. “Greyson did a good job on the hill competing,” said North head coach Brett Wolfe. “He threw quality strikes to get outs and we did just enough offensively to push a couple runs on the board.” Preston Johnson supplied an RBI single in the third inning and, after stealing second base and third base, scored on a wild pitch for a 2-0 North lead. After Willamette (2-6, 1-3) cut its deficit to 2-1, the Tornado tacked on an insurance run in the fifth when Larson Kindreich walked, stole second and third and later scored on a fielder’s choice by Tate Cowden. Kyle Botermans had two hits and two RBIs for the Pirates and pitcher Drake Knowles (2-1) picked up the win with four no-hit innings of relief.
